We are pleased to present Thomas Marerwa, the driving force and emotional core of TSM Care. Thomas's remarkable journey and philosophy are integral to the identity of TSM Care.
Thomas's path into caregiving is characterized by profound empathy and a natural ability to connect with individuals in need. His passion for caregiving emerged early in life. Growing up in Zimbabwe with a grandfather who had dementia, he discovered a distinctive calling. While many children might have felt burdened, Thomas embraced the opportunity to care for his grandfather. The bond they formed allowed them to communicate in their own unique way, enabling his grandfather to engage with the world around him.
Tragically, Thomas lost his grandfather at an age 101, yet this experience as a caregiver in his youth instilled in him qualities of patience and deep empathy, which would later become foundational to his professional journey.
Upon moving to the UK as a adult, Thomas undertook various roles, from caring and cleaning jobs. However, it was his position as a personal carer that solidified his passion for caregiving. It was in this role that he recognized his true vocation: making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
Beginning his career as a personal carer in a residential home for the elderly, Thomas's unwavering commitment and dedication quickly became apparent. His career advanced to the position of Registered Manager at a care home accredited by the Care Quality Commission, where he is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the facility.. Thomas's compassion resonated not only with his services users but also with the families of those he served. Thomas pursued training to become a Registered Adult Nurse and earned a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Adult Nursing. It was during this pivotal period that the concept for TSM Care began to take shape. Thomas envisioned a company that would offer well-trained staff committed to upholding dignity, respect, personal choice, and independence.
In 2023, he embarked on a significant journey by establishing his own company, which initially focused on providing domiciliary care services. During the first 1 year, he dedicated himself to working closely with a small team, imparting his methods and the underlying philosophy of care work.
Thomas holds the belief that caregiving transcends mere employment; it is a calling that demands authentic passion. He actively seeks this passion in his employees, as it is this principle that fosters excellence in care and serves as the cornerstone of TSM Care's success.
In addition to passion, Thomas’s strategy for team development reflects his own characteristics—patience, effective communication, empathy, and initiative. He is convinced that these qualities are essential for exceptional caregiving.
Moreover, the team at TSM Care collaborates with a training partner to ensure that all care workers receive ongoing training, reinforcing their human-cantered skills.
What distinguishes TSM Care from its competitors is a profound comprehension of what constitutes outstanding care. Clients can present significant challenges, and Thomas consistently reminds his team that “it is essential to recognize that these individuals require support and may not always express their needs clearly. Do not take it personally.”
A pertinent example of this approach involves a 75-year-old service user exhibiting highly challenging behaviour and anxiety towards individuals of different ethnic backgrounds. Throughout the interaction, Thomas maintained a calm demeanour, communicated gently, and empowered the service user to make informed decisions regarding his care. It was this patience and understanding that effectively resolved the situation.
Thomas’s mental fortitude and steadfast compassion have laid the groundwork for TSM Care. The company’s commitment to selecting suitable caregivers for their clients, their round-the-clock availability, and their dedication to delivering high-quality care exemplify their reliability and commitment.
In the realm of caregiving, genuine success is defined by the influence one has on the lives of those they assist. Thomas’s evolution from a young caregiver to the founder of TSM Care exemplifies this principle.
